The body of a Limpopo fisherman who went missing last week was found at the weekend without his private parts, right leg, intestines and arms.
He was suspected to have been eaten by crocodiles.
The body of Michael Manyuha, of Ha-Makhuvha, was found floating in Damani Dam outside Thohoyandou on Friday.
Manyuha went to the dam last Tuesday to catch fish to sell and feed his family, but he did not return home.
His wife, Thivhulawi Manyuha, said she was concerned and worried when her husband did not come home and asked her relatives and the villagers to start looking for him.
Manyuha said her neighbours found his tattered and bloodied clothes on the banks of the dam on Wednesday evening.
Michael's father, William Manyuha, 78, said the death of his son would cause untold suffering for the family.
The whole community, including his family and his son's two children Hakhakhi, 9 and Mashudu, 11, would starve, he said.
Vhembe police spokesman Captain Mashudu Malelo confirmed the incident and said police had opened an inquest docket.
"Crocodiles live both in water and on land. Anyone who goes near the water stands the risk of being attacked by these dangerous amphibians."
