Highly rated fighter Muvhuso Nedzanani has parted ways with long-time mentor Rob MacLeod, who has manned his corner since his first professional fight on August 19 2000.
The 26-year-old solid-rock fighter from Tshimbupfe in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, who has held national, WBC International and WBF junior flyweight belts, cited lack of professionalism by the Gauteng mentor.
"Rob was continuously absent from the gym, whether I was preparing for a big fight or not," he said before announcing that he had teamed up with Gert Strydom.
The latter, also from Gauteng, is an unsung hero who guided Malcolm "The Stone" Klassen to victory for the IBF junior lightweight belt against Australian Gary St Clair here on November 4 2006.
Pressed for comment yesterday MacLeod said he instructed Nedzanani to close the door of his gym from the outside.
"I chased him away," he said straight up. "I have had enough of him. Our contract ends in July but I don't care."
Nedzanani, suitably nicknamed "Hands of Thunder" for his senseless destruction of 12 of his 21 victims, and MacLeod had been a perfect pair.
Due to weight problems, late last year Nedzanani abandoned the WBF belt to campaign in the junior bantamweight division.
The IBF's ratings committee has recognised his mastery with a number 14 rating.
Other fighters who have left MacLeod include Alvin Mahonisi and Isaac Maluleke while, Tshifhiwa Munyai and Jasper Seroka, remained behind.
