Opposition parties have slammed the ANC for including convicted criminals on its nomination list for the upcoming elections.

This follows reports that former ANC Women's League president Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has topped the party's list in Gauteng while former ANC chief whip Tony Yengeni was nominated by the Northern Cape.

Madikizela-Mandela was convicted of fraud in 2003. Yengeni was convicted of fraud and corruption linked to the arms deal in 2004.

The DA regarded the inclusion of Madikizela-Mandela and Yengeni as "undesirable".

Congress of the People said they would "show respect to the electorate by isolating on their list candidates with criminal records".
