This year marks the 50th anniversary of Motown, a highly influential musical era. Universal Music will be celebrating Motown's 50th birthday with media updates and a variety of collectibles in 2009.
Gold Reef City Casino and Kaya FM add to the global celebration with Hazel Feldman's stellar production of Motown Magic - scheduled for The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City Casino from April 22 to May 17.
This spectacular musical extravaganza tells the story of Motown's mega hits and its impact on many songs reworked and re-mastered to be loved by millions of fans worldwide 50 years later.
Motown's list of artists reads like a who's who of the American soul and R&B scene from the 1960s through to the late 1970s - Diana Ross and The Supremes, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5, Lionel Richie and The Commodores, The Marvelettes, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, Gladys Knight and The Pips, and many more.
Showcasing local talent, this Showtime Management production of Motown Magic at The Lyric Theatre includes nine South African artists - among them international TV personalities AND a seven-piece band - and covers more than 70 hits.
