There is a rumour that Chrysler is in talks about selling its assets, including the Jeep brand. Chrysler South Africa's Richard Sloman says the report is "completely inaccurate".
If you haven't noticed the popularity of small cars such as Fiat, Peugeot and Renault compared with large and luxurious models in recent months, you have been on too long a holiday.
It seems that Mzansi car owners have felt the economic pinch and are gradually switching to more affordable, more fuel efficient cars than the black, high-speed, high-bling and high-price executive cars.
To help with that commendable mindset, Hyundai SA says it will shave off R700 from the monthly instalment on any new Getz or Accent for 12 months.
Question is: will that money be recovered in the instalments after a year? Also, the company says this deal is tied to its Hyundai Assurance package, which states that if you are retrenched within the first 12 months of purchasing either car, Hyundai will buy back the car from you at 85 percent of the price. Sweet deal.
More and more "cash back" deals are being waved around and there is a saving to be made if you search well.
The most adventurous deal I came across is offered by Fury Ford Midrand. They say if you buy a 2008 Mazda CX7 SUV from them you will get R100000 cash back. Also, from the same dealer, if you sign for a 2008 Ford Focus 5-door SI you can get back R17000.
The dealer adds that these agreements are subject to Ford credit approvals.
