Mobilising the masses

The government is embarking on a mass mobilisation campaign in all nine provinces to create awareness of this year's Confederations Cup and the 2010 World Cup.

The government is embarking on a mass mobilisation campaign in all nine provinces to create awareness of this year's Confederations Cup and the 2010 World Cup.

The road show is an initiative of the Department of Sport and Recreation's World Cup unit, which is led by Dan Moyo.

Mmemme Mogotsi, the unit's spokesman, told Sowetan yesterday that the first road show would take place at Galeshewe Stadium in Northern Cape on January 27 and would be attended by prominent sports personalities.

Moyo said: "The fundamental priorities to be achieved by the 2010 mass mobilisation road shows is to ensure that there is an increased awareness of the hosting of the two competitions."

Soccer equipment will also be handed over to Safa in Northern Cape on that day.

The high-profile guests will include LOC boss Danny Jordaan, Sports Minister Makhenkesi Stofile and Kaizer Chiefs captain Jimmy Tau.

Oupa Mabula, a senior Safa Northern Cape official, said: "We are naturally thrilled that the Confederations Cup and World Cup awareness campaign will be launched in our province."
