January is a tough month financially and that is why we need some humour to lighten our burden.

If you are in Joburg next week and you want to laugh go to the DStv Comedy Festival at the Latinova in Rosebank on Wednesday January 28 at 8pm.

The festival features talented performers such as Loyiso Gola, whose unique sense of humour and frank commentary has made him one of South Africa's most popular comedians.

In the game for only two years now, Eugene Khoza breaks down boundaries, builds bridges and challenges prejudice and stereotypes.

His deep understanding of cultures and the ability to see the humour in them makes him a favourite of audiences.

Roni Modimola's quiet charm and ability to poke fun at holy cows tickles audiences' funny bones. His jokes abound with clever wordplay and he employs subtle characterisations and witty dialogue.

Just 22 years old, Thomas Gumede is a multi-talented TV and film actor, presenter and stand-up comedian.

Then there is the fresh brand of laissez faire humour of Ntosh Madlingozi, who is the host. His versatility has made him a sought-after MC, radio character and TV personality.

The monthly event is about dressing to the nines, putting your best foot forward and preparing for a night of entertainment at a fabulous venue.

Some of South Africa's best deejays will do the musical honours to keep your spirits up.

Above all, here is a wonderful chance to enjoy the lighter side of life and to forget the turbulent times we live in for a while.

DStv marketing manager Lefeedi Maja says: "We recognise the growth of and interest in comedy in South Africa this festival is tailor-made to connect with our market.

"We are also committed to supporting established local talent and contributing to the growth of new talent."
