Diyo Sibisi passed a medical examination and is expected to sign for the under-performing Mamelodi Sundowns this week.

Mahlatse Mphahlele, Downs' publicist, told Sowetan yesterday: "He attended the medical and we are happy that he's going to sign with us.

"He is not injured and we are looking forward to seeing him on the pitch."

Walter Mokoena, Sibisi's manager, could not be reached for comment yesterday.

But the popular television sports show host told Sowetan on Sunday that his charge was close to signing for Sundowns.

"Sundowns have put in an offer with Free State Stars for the player, which Stars agreed to.

"I will discuss the deal further with Diyo Sibisi," Mokoena said.

"I'm happy for Diyo, considering that he is not getting any younger. He is a good player and does not deserve to be in the wilderness."

At first Sibisi pleaded ignorance of his pending relocation to Chloorkop, but changed his tune when pressed.

"Obviously I'm excited with the prospect of joining a big team of Sundowns' stature and I want to help them win matches. I am not nervous to join a team like Sundowns," the striker said.

Sibisi, who was placed on the transfer list at his own request last week, had been training with Ea lla Koto until he arrived in Johannesburg on Sunday.

Stars proved they could live without him when they annihilated league champions SuperSport United 4-1 on Saturday.
