Family Bonds II will have you in stitches on Sundays
For comic relief of the television kind, tune in to Family BondsII on SABC1 on Sundays at 7pm.
The show had a hugely successful run in 2007 and one wonders why it took the SABC so long to bring it back. The ratings speak for themselves.
Family Bonds IIdeals with issues that most families are familiar with.
Sunday nights will never be the same again since Family Bonds II promises to take sitcoms to a new level of funnyness.
The comedy is about a young married couple, Themba and Buyi Vilakazi, who have just moved to the suburbs from Umlazi. They have hardly settled down in their new place after three months when the relatives decide to come visiting.
Some of them want to come for a few days while others need a few weeks to "sort themselves out" after finding a job or just because they want to chill.
The couple decide that they will not put up with pestering relatives for more than a month, which they dub the "window period". During this time, any relative can visit, but after a month everyone must go home.
During the window period, Buyi's grandmother and Themba's half-brother, whom he has not seen in more than a decade, arrive. Buyi's distant cousin Winnie also takes advantage of the window period.
To add to the couple's problems, the guy who rents their back room, who's been quiet all along, starts behaving like a member of the family.
The Vilakazis plot how to get rid of their relatives.
Family Bonds II is recorded in front of a live studio audience. Phumzile Mlangeni (Buyi) and Ndumiso Dlamini (Themba) and the rest of the cast will split your sides. The show is conceptualised by Mandla Thabethe.
