ANC MEC no to Cope

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for agriculture, Mtholephi Mthimkhulu, yesterday reacted angrily to reports that he had been included in the ANC election list to prevent him from crossing to the Congress of the People.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for agriculture, Mtholephi Mthimkhulu, yesterday reacted angrily to reports that he had been included in the ANC election list to prevent him from crossing to the Congress of the People.

The ANC MEC said he had no intention of joining Cope which broke away from the ANC late last year.

Mthimkhulu was one of the ANC leaders perceived to be loyal to former ANC president Thabo Mbeki, who was defeated by Jacob Zuma during the party's elective conference in Polokwane.

Some ANC members who supported Mbeki during a bitter race for the ANC presidency are now members of Cope.

Mthimkhulu said the rumour that he would join Cope was spread by people who wanted to create mistrust. - Sapa
