South Africa sprang a surprise by opening the bowling with slow left-arm orthodox bowler Dale Deeb.
He did a splendid job by taking three wickets and left-arm paceman Obus Pienaar ended with two.
But England's Sam Northeast hit 68 and Joshua Cobb 50 to help their team to 222 for 7.
This pair were responsible for adding 67 runs for the second wicket to set the foundation for their team.
The South Africans, who had wicketkeeper Mangaliso Mosehle batting at number three, started off badly, losing the first wicket with only 14 runs on the board. They never got going as England bowling attack, led by Nathan Buck, Chris Wood, Hamza Riazuddin and Liam Dawson, restricted the home team to 214 all out.
Mosehle's 58 was the top score of the South African innings.
Pienaar played a supportive role with his 53 off 42 balls but that could not unsettle a determined England side. The South Africans were bowled out for 214 runs, after 48,1 overs.
