Relive battle of Gauteng

About a fortnight ago local football saw the battle of Gauteng's two major cities end in a one-all draw.

That was the weekend when Tshwane's finest, league champions SuperSport United, faced Orlando Pirates and thumped the Buccaneers 1-0, while Kaizer Chiefs saved Johannesburg more embarrassment when they took the bling out of Mamelodi Sundowns by the same margin the next day.

These games will be the subject of the African Soccer Television show, which airs on SABC1 Sport's Laduma programme on Sunday at 2.30pm.

There has also been some exciting action in the 2008-2009 TNM Super League in Malawi. Silver Strikers' spectacular 2-0 win over the Red Lions, which sealed the league championship, will be among the highlights.

While action was limited over the festive period, the 2008-2009 edition of the FNB Cup kicked off in Namibia and has already seen a number of upsets.

The tournament was launched in 2005, with Blue Waters FC taking the trophy home to Walvis Bay.

Since then it has been dominated by teams from Windhoek, with Civics claiming it in 2006 and Ramblers keeping it in the same city the following year.
