Trushna Bhoola thought having a twin sister was a blessing.

But that all changed two years ago when her bank mixed up their ID numbers.

Since then Bhoola, 25, of Laudium in Pretoria, has been trying to get this sorted out.

Her twin sister is in debt. Last year she consolidated her debts and has been paying off R10000.

"But my account has been debited for her debts," she says.

In anger she moved to another bank. But when she applied for a loan, she was told she'd been blacklisted.

The two women went to Standard Bank to have the mix-up sorted out. But Bhoola was blacklisted again. The offender was her sister's clothing accounts.

"The bank linked my ID number to her name," said Bhoola.

"I have dealt with about 40 people from credit cards and the internal ombudsman.

"My phone bill for December was R5000 as I had to call almost 10 times a day and was sometimes put on hold for more than 45 minutes.

"I had to delay my holiday and pay penalties for my flights and accommodation," Bhoola said.

She wants a written apology from the bank and that this will never happen again.

Standard Bank's external communications manager, Eric Larsen, said: "We are looking into this matter.

"We need time to give a considered response ."
