In Mpumalanga yesterday, pupils at the Moses Mnisi High School in Cottondale, near Acornhoek, took to the streets and marched to the local education circuit to demand the immediate appointment of 15 teachers at the school.
Jasper Zwane, the provincial education department spokesman, confirmed that the department was aware about the shortage of teachers at the school.
At Doornlaagte Combined School, outside Zeerust, parents disrupted learning.
The school made headlines after registering a 100 percent failure rate for Grade 10, 11 and 12 last year.
Parents took out children who were in classes and forced them to join in their demonstrations.
Meanwhile, schooling got off to a brisk start at Johannesburg primary schools with Grade 1 pupils learning their colours.
