Mpumalanga's newly crowned Miss SA second princess, Buyi Shongwe, has quit her job to focus more on modelling.

The popular co-host of Nelspruit's MPower FM's Afternoon Drive Show with David Watts came second in the Miss South Africa beauty competition.

MPower FM marketing manager Louisa van Wyk said Shongwe's departure was a great loss to the station.

"She was one of our great on-air talents and besides her sparkling personality she was an inspiration to all at the radio station. We will miss her constant smile," she said.

Said Shongwe: "My time at MPower FM was empowering.

"I'm honoured that I was chosen to be part of such a dynamic team and am very grateful that listeners invited us into their lives every weekday."

Her ambitions have always been more inclined to a corporate setting and she has now been given an opportunity to enter that world with a dynamic company in Johannesburg, she said.

The station announced yesterday that it was searching for a replacement.

l Meanwhile, Desiree Mahlunga, who left the station late last year, will be returning to MPower FM.

Mahlunga will be back from February 2 in the noon to 3pm slot.

The station's general manager, Bondo Ntuli, resigned in December.
