Teachers must pull weight

Sowetan's lead story last Friday about the worst performing school in North West refers.

As parents and interested parties in this village, we are aware that this school still has typing as one of the subjects on their outdated school reports despite the absence of a typewriter or any other typing appliance in the school.

We are also aware that teachers at this school generally reside 60km or more from the school and are often only at school between 10am and 1pm. They claim a lack of transport as the reason.

The best answer one receives from the Education Department is that our concerns have been referred to the district officialswho are yet to respond.

No team of experts assembled by the MEC each January to grace his boardroom - whatever their qualifications and or commitment - can ever replace the simple truth of an informed teacher being in class on time, with chalk in hand and teaching during school hours.

This is the simple and fundamental truth that confronts the education authorities in the province. For now, North West teachers, like vinegar, leave a sour taste in the mouth. Pupils remain the salt of the earth.

It appears that the education MEC Reverend Johannes Tselapedi and his team completely misunderstood Jesus.
