The Limpopo provincial department of health and social development said yesterday it was worried about the increase of tuberculosis reported in the province.

MEC Seaparo Sekoati said TB was a major problem that was being tackled by the department, but that it was still one of the leading causes of death in South Africa.

Though TB was highly dangerous it was possible to cure it if the victim received the "proper medical attention", Sekoati said.

lTB is a disease that usually affects the lungs. It destroys the soft tissues, resulting in difficulty with breathing and in blood being coughed up.
