Act urgently

The North West Education Department must take full responsibility for the dismal situation at Moselapetlwa village's Doornlaagte Combined School, dubbed South Africa's worst school because of its 100 percent failure rate last year.

The North West Education Department must take full responsibility for the dismal situation at Moselapetlwa village's Doornlaagte Combined School, dubbed South Africa's worst school because of its 100 percent failure rate last year.

All of the school's 241 pupils  - including matric candidates - failed their exams last year.

The poor results have been attributed to various negative elements such as teachers consistently arriving late for classes, lack of drinkable water, electricity and public amenities.

But the real culprits in this scenario are no doubt the school's management, which not only spared the rod and spoilt the child, but countenanced high instances of ill-discipline among the teachers.
