Two Pretoria policemen - one attached to the organised crime unit and the other to the flying squad - are due to appear in court today on corruption charges.

The cops, a sergeant and a 26-year-old constable, attached to the Pretoria organised crime unit and Silverton flying squad, respectively, were arrested last week.

It is alleged that they solicited a bribe from an Atteridgeville man alleged to be dealing in fake DVDs.

The incident happened on Wednesday night when the two allegedly went to a house in Seeiso Street, Atteridgeville, where they threatened to arrest the man in his late 20s if he did not give them cash.

When they could not extort money the sergeant allegedly took appliances, including 78 fake DVDs, a plasma television set and a computer.

Police spokesman Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini said the men had been due to appear in the Atteridgeville magistrate's court on Friday but will only appear today because of ongoing investigations.
