They say the measure of a true champion is in how they bounce back from adversity.

That said, then Hendrik Ramaala's performances this year will be keenly watched as the great athlete attempts to put an atrocious year behind him, starting this Saturday when he and a slew of other runners tackle the first of the Nedbank Matha Series races in Tshwane.

Ramaala said he planned to use all these races to gauge how his preparations for the London Marathon in April has gone.

"Last year was supposed to be my year, but it did not turn out that way. I didn't take a break for holiday and now I can only hope for some luck," said Ramaaala.

Ramaala, Enos Matalane, Ronel Thomas, Sharon Tavenga and Lusapho April will fight it out for the R20 000 prize money on offer.

While Irvette Van Blerk, will slug it out with Poppy Mlambo in the ladies' race.

The race will be run in the Hatfield area in Tshwane.
