Zondo ready for Students

Matome Lebea

Absa Premiership upstarts Bay United's resurgence under Khabo Zondo will be tested by Bidvest Wits when they meet in an Absa Premiership fixture at EPRU Stadium on Sunday at 3.30pm.

But Zondo, who has performed fairly well since taking over the coaching reins from Vladislav Heric at the beginning of last month, is confident his charges will prevail at home against Wits.

He said the spirit in the camp was high, adding everybody was ready, willing and able to get a positive result from this encounter.

"The team is prepared well and I'm confident about our chances. I think the worst result for us would be a draw," said Zondo yesterday.

The Students, mentored by Roger de Sa, have been blowing hot and cold, but their 1-0 win over Moroka Swallows in their last match could be enough motivation for them to triumph on Sunday.

Watsh' Umlilo surprised all and sundry when they pipped pre-match favourites Lamontville Golden Arrows in the last match going into the festive recess.

Their supporters are also expected to attend in throngs to give them an extra boost.

De Sa is equally confident of their chances, saying: "We will do our best and get something out of this game."

Jimmy Zakazaka is expected to lead United's strike force with enthusiasm, while Gareth Ncaca should make things happen in the midfield. But the absence of Luntu Mazana and Siyabulela Songwiqi could make United vulnerable in this department.

Wits have the likes of Sibusiso Mahlangu, Sifiso Myeni and Dale Studzinski who are capable of spoiling United's party.
