Free State Stars are among the relegation candidates this season, but surprisingly the management of the club will not rush to beef up the squad for the second round.

Instead, Ea lla Koto can afford to put four players on the transfer list ahead of their Absa Premiership match against the much-improved AmaZulu on Sunday.

They square up at Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem at 3.30pm.

Rantsi Mokoena, Stars' general manager, confirmed yesterday that midfielders Bruin Senokoane and Sifiso Sithole, defender Christopher Tsotetsi and forward Tshepo Mashego have been put on the transfer list.

"We have acted on the recommendations of the technical staff. The players did not feature regularly and are not in our coaches' future plans, and so why we should keep them?" argued Mokoena yesterday.

"We thank them for their contribution they made in the team and wish them luck in their future endeavours."

Some positive results last month might have convinced the management not to go into the transfer market in this month's registration window period.

But this might come back to haunt them as the second round will be highly competitive.

Mokoena remained adamant, though, they will weather the storm with their current players.

Diyo Sibisi and Saitjheni Tsotetsi are among the players who can cause havoc for the battle-scarred Usuthu.

l Bay United have released five players and are shopping for new recruits to strengthen their somewhat shaky squad. The players are Adebayo Abayomi, Teboho Moloi, Ignatius Makobe, Abednego Netshodwe and Sherwin Smith.
