Former Cosatu and South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) president Willy Madisha has resigned as teacher.

He handed his resignation to the Limpopo education department on December 15.

" I want to focus on my family and my new political party. I want to start a new life," he said.

Madisha was supposed to have reported to class after he was fired by Sadtu in September.

He was a teacher at the Ramabele Secondary School in Zebediella, in the Capricorn district.

The department froze his salary when he failed to report for duty.

Dzwoitaho Nevhutalu, his head of department, said the teacher temporarily appointed to Madisha's position would serve until a new teacher was appointed.
