Businesswoman and socialite Zindzi Mandela has been invited to present the prestigious 17th Annual Trumpet Awards on January 25 in Atlanta, US.

The awards "acknowledge the accomplishments of men and women who have significantly contributed to enhancing the quality of life for all individuals and/or groups who augment the richness of this great global society by partnering with the cause of justice and equality of all".

Organised by the Trumpet Awards Foundation the ceremony is expected to be attended by the who-is-who of black American achievers from politics, civil rights, television, film, radio and business.

An excited Mandela told Sowetan yesterday that she felt privileged to represent not only herself but the country at that level.

"This is a good thing for me personally since it will raise my profile, but also for the country that I will be representing," she said.

"To be associated with awards that create an awareness about a noble cause is a wonderful experience.

"Having been there recently to launch the US leg of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, and having interacted with South Africans that are making it in the US as part of the Lion King, I will once again have an opportunity to network with South African artists."
