Mabokweni Mokoena

Beside his tireless contribution as a community builder, church elder and loving parent, David Mokoena will be remembered most for his infectious and forever present smile.

No matter how difficult and serious the problem might have been, "Bra Day" always had a jokey and good-natured way of coming up with a solution. He was always a favourite among his many nephews, brothers, colleagues and nieces.

Born in Benoni location on February 2 1942, he moved to Daveyton in 1955.

He first worked for Lexington cigarettes as a sales representative before joining Lever Brothers, where he worked for more than 30 years - until he was called by the Lord on Sunday morning.

He held various chairmanships within the Daveyton community. Among them was Chairman of the board of the popular Nancy McDowell Crèche. He was also chairman of the Davey High School governing body.

In his youth he packed a dangerous right hook as a boxer and was also a fanatic Moroka Swallows supporter.

He was also a partner at Salvage Training Services and a high-ranking member of the Assemblies of God Church.

During his time at Lever Brothers he trained hundreds of young men as forklift and truck drivers.

He is survived by his wife Sophie, four daughters Mpho, Tebogo, Nthabiseng and Tshegofatso and five grandchildren.

The funeral will take place on Saturday at 11am at the Assemblies of God Church in Daveyton.
