A woman who complained to Sowetan about delays in her rape case has gone into hiding after receiving death threats, Limpopo police said.
The case involving the 22-year-old woman from Malebitsa in Moutse has bumbled along for eight years and has been postponed 48 times.
The woman told the police her life was in danger because she had allegedly received death threats from one of the two suspects after the report appeared in Sowetan.
She said she "has lost confidence in the justice system".
Director Daniel Moinyane of the Denilton police said the prosecutor was "considering whether the woman faced a threat".
The police will not say which of her two alleged assailants stands accused of threatening her life.
"We know who the suspect is and will make an arrest soon," Moinyane said. Hendrick Masuku Matlanato, 27, and Tsomo Skosana, 28, are both out on bail after being charged with the attack eight years ago. The accused men live two blocks from the victim.
The national prosecuting authority says the woman and witnesses have all completed their testimony.
The case will resume on February 4, when the accused are expected to give evidence.
