South African players who are based in Israel are safe in spite of the hostilities in that country.
The players are Tsepo Masilela, Thembinkosi "Terror" Fanteni, Bevan Fransman and the recently arrived Siyabonga Nkosi.
Masilela and Fanteni play for Maccabi Haifa who are leading the Israeli Ligat Ha'Al log.
Fransman and Nkosi, on the other hand, feature for Maccabi Netanya who are second in the standings.
Speaking to Sowetan from Israel yesterday, Masilela said the hostilities that have resulted in hundreds of fatalities in the Gaza Strip and some deaths in Israel have not affected them.
"We are based in the north part of the country and the whole thing is happening in the south," explained Masilela, who sounded relaxed. "We read this in newspapers and see it on television just like you back home.
"The situation here does not prevent us from going to the malls, restaurants or movies. Terror is also equally safe and he spoke to Bevan and Nkosi and I think they also feel the same."
But the situation is likely to affect the smooth running of the league. Already the resumption of the league, which was supposed to take place on Saturday, has been postponed indefinitely.
lFrancesco Ferreira of the famed Prosport International that manages players, said he was hopeful Thanda Royal Zulu marksman Bernard Parker will join Serbian club Red Star Belgrade.
"Our negotiations are at an advanced stage and we are busy tying up some loose ends," said Ferreira yesterday.
Parker is the Absa Premiership leading goal scorer with 10 goals.
Ferreira would not comment on Kagisho Dikgacoi's pending move to English Premiership club Fulham, because the matter is handled by the company's boss Mike Makaab who could not be reached for comment.
The Lamontville Golden Arrows midfielder is waiting for a work permit.
