Weather officials predict more rain this weekend for KwaZulu-Natal, where killer storms recently claimed 16 lives and caused damage amounting to millions of rands.
The province has suffered at least six torrential storms accompanied by lightning, hail and heavy winds since the beginning of summer.
SA weather service regional manager Sifiso Ngubane says they have not issued any emergency warnings yet because it is difficult to predict where the storms will strike next. He blames global warming and climate changes for the storms.
"People should be aware that heavy rains will hit many parts of the province this weekend," Ngubane says.
"We have partnered with the provincial government's disaster management department and radio stations to alert people about the changing weather situation.
"We also have a 24-hour hot line - 082-233-9500 - so that people can enquire about the weather."
Estimates of the damage caused by storms that hammered Umgungundlovu, eThekwini, Sisonke, iLembe and uMzinyathi last weekend have not yet been released.
Social development MEC Meshack Radebe said the various departments were still calculating the damage.
