The festive season may be over but summer is around for a while longer and the scorching SA sun is still upon us, leaving us in desperate need of something to keep us cool and refreshed.

The festive season may be over but summer is around for a while longer and the scorching SA sun is still upon us, leaving us in desperate need of something to keep us cool and refreshed.

To help us find a drink that will wish the summer heat away, we called upon the services of sizzling hot R&B singer Danny K.

Danny is in the studio working on his fifth album, to be released later in the year, while also running his music school in Pretoria, where he teaches music to young people together with other music heavyweights such as RJ Benjamin.

He is also looking forward to his upcoming nuptials later in the year to model Lee-Ann Liebenberg.

The acclaimed musician enjoys the odd chilled glass of iced tea, so we put his iced tea taste buds to the test to see just which one was cool enough to banish the summer heat.

His first casualty was the mango-flavoured Nestea. After a few sips and with an earnest look, he's ready to give his verdict. He thinks the drink has an after-taste with more mango than actual tea taste. "It's an easy drink, it's smooth and nice," he says. But he is not completely sold on this iced tea.

His next sip was of the Clover iced tea and this cuppa didn't go down well with Danny. "It has too much of a tea burn to it. It's like acid ripping your head off," he squirms. The strong tea taste of this drink left a bitter taste in Danny's mouth and he admits that he will not be going anywhere near Clover iced tea in the future.

The rooibos-flavoured Lipton iced tea was the next to go down.

"Lipton is a good brand. I often drink their peach-flavoured iced tea, but this was the first time drinking their rooibos flavour," he said. "It's smoother than Clover and doesn't have as much of a tea taste."

Though he enjoys the drink, he thinks it would be best enjoyed by a rooibos tea drinker.

Woolworths' chamomile and summer fruit iced tea was his last taste. Though initially sceptical of the flavour, it turned out to be his favourite drink of the lot.

"It has a light taste and is very refreshing."

He is impressed with what he calls its perfect blend of the fruity and tea taste.

"This is what a hot summer's day drink should taste like," he said. - Lerato Matsaneng
