Two suspended senior municipal officials in Tzaneen will know their fate when they appear before a disciplinary hearing today.

Community services manager Vincent Maake and head of communication and marketing, Solomon Mokhashoa, were suspended early last year on charges that they had mobilised municipal employees to reject the council's cost-recovery plan and had also encouraged community members not to pay for services.

They are also accused of mobilising councillors during office hours to support certain political agendas, thereby causing divisions in the ruling ANC in the municipality.

They appeared briefly at a disciplinary hearing last month but the case was postponed until today and tomorrow when their lawyer failed to show up.

Municipal manager Mabakane Mangena said the hearing would focus on Mokhashoa, who is accused of violating the condition of his suspension by continuing to speak to the media.

"We are finalising a settlement with Maake," he said.

Mangena expected the hearing to be completed this week.
