AUDI JOBURG WINTER FASHION WEEK A MUST-SEE

Joburg will lure South Africa's fashionable crowd with Audi Joburg Winter Fashion Week 2009.

Joburg will lure South Africa's fashionable crowd with Audi Joburg Winter Fashion Week 2009.

Models and designers will take over The Pavilion Room at the Sandton Convention Centre from Wednesday, January 21, to Saturday, January 24.

The AJFW is an African fashion international production that is in its third year.

The winter collections show will take place in January for the first time in the history of this prestigious fashion show.

Chairman of African Fashion International Precious Motsepe said the aim of moving the show to January was to ensure that not only does the show fit in with international fashion calendars and seasons, but that designers were able to get their collections in store for the South African winter season.

David Tlale, Thula Sindi, New Generation, Lesego Peega and Fundudzi, among others, will showcase gorgeous garments, fabrics and accessories on more than 20 catwalk shows.

Joining fashion trailblazers is young and emerging Thembisile Mazibuko, pictured left. Mazibuko, who turned heads in AJFW 2007 as part of New Generation Designers and showcased a range at the Virgin Mobile Cape Town Fashion Week Finale show, should be a designer to watch. She designs clothes for elegant and sophisticated women with a versatile artistic fashion taste.

She describes her work as fun, contemporary, conceptual artistic custom-made haute couture-street wear. Her first introduction to fashion design as a possible career was in primary school when her art teacher, a qualified fashion designer, used to teach her and her friends fashion design in her spare time

Artistic Soul should be another attention-grabber this Fashion Week. Artistic Soul is headed by designer Tshepo Modiba, pictured right.

The line offers a range of services from custom-made occasion wear to mass-produced corporate wear.

This is not the first time Modiba will be showcasing at the AJFW. After his Joburg Fashion Week 2008 debut, he received great reviews from fashion critics. His show is sure to be a must-see.
