Newborn baby left at hospital

Mpumalanga's health authorities are searching for the family of a newborn baby girl who was abandoned at a local hospital.

Mpumalanga's health authorities are searching for the family of a newborn baby girl who was abandoned at a local hospital.

The authorities nevertheless commended the mother for abandoning the infant safely, because the baby "was fed and cleaned, and this shows that she was loved until that moment".

A young mother allegedly handed the baby to a receptionist at Mmametlhake Hospital at the weekend, saying she did not have money to raise her daughter.

"The infant appears to be in good health and has been transferred to the hospital's maternity ward," said spokesman Dumisane Mlangeni.

"The woman who dropped the baby said she was living with her granny whose R800 grant would not be enough for them."- Alfred Moselakgomo
