Intimidation, insults and threats have rocked the Maruleng municipality in Limpopo.
The municipality is also facing total collapse because of d infighting between high ranking officials.
So nasty has the situation become that council chief whip, Petrus Mashumu of the ANC, was arrested and charged with intimidation. He has been released on free bail.
Also, ANC bigwig and speaker of the council, Magdeline Lewele, has gone into hiding after receiving a threatening SMS.
Mashumu is said to have admitted to police that he sent the SMS to Lewele.
The message reads in part: "Many comrades were assassinated, kidnapped and others died for this freedom. It won't take time for us to eliminate you. You better comply by removing those Cope members quickly out of your office."
Mashumu will appear in court on January 16 , according to investigating officer, Egbert Botha .
