United wants more hunting striker

Defending Absa Premiership champions SuperSport United are hoping to sign a top class striker and midfielder in the January transfer window.

Defending Absa Premiership champions SuperSport United are hoping to sign a top class striker and midfielder in the January transfer window.

United coach Gavin Hunt is worried his experienced strikers Glen Salmon, Katlego Mashego and Fikru Tefera lack fire power - they have scored only five of United's 19 league goals.

"We have scored the most goals in the league (19) but my top goal scorer with four is (winger) Anthony Laffor," said Hunt. "I need to reinforce my attack and make sure we retain the league title." Salmon, the former Bafana Bafana striker, played for 10 years in Holland and Greece before rejoining the PSL champions and has only played two full league games without scoring. He has one goal inthe MTN8 Cup.

Ethiopian born Tefera has not found the net in 14 games while Mashego has scored three times..

Mashego appears unsettled and could leave the team when his contract expires at the end of the season.

United return to training on Wednesday for the restart of the campaign next weekend. United play Orlando Pirates at the Johannesburg Stadium on January 10.

"The leaue is competitive," said Hunt. "There are no easy games. We need to get back to winning ways." Sapa
