Some will only get results 'next year'

While most Gauteng matriculants have received their matric results about 1100 others remain in the dark because their results are still to be released.

Jacqui Oaks of Bosmont, Johannesburg, says her family was frustrated after Robyn, her daughter, was told to "wait" until the new year.

"We went to Westbury Secondary with the hope of getting the results only to be told that the results were unavailable."

Jacqui, a schoolteacher, told Sowetan "plans were already in place" for her daughter to study journalism at the University of Johannesburg.

Gauteng education department spokesman Panyaza Lesufi said the delay was due to irregularities.

"Some results are being withheld because we are dealing with instances of cheating. Also, some schools did not submit their year marks, while in other cases pupils simply did not pitch for examinations."

Lesufi said the outstanding results would be released after "proper auditing" had been done.

He also condemned those schools that were apparently withholding results because of "missing" textbooks.
