The Gauteng provincial government is using the on-going festive season soccer tournaments to promote the 2009 Confederations Cup and the 2010 World Cup.

The competitions are Masterpieces Moripe (Atteridgeville), Godfrey Moloi (Mapetla), Kwa-Mahlobo (Meadowlands), Kwa-Thema, Tembisa, Daveyton and Katlehong as well as a new tournament by former Bafana Bafana striker Pollen Ndlanya in Daveyton.

Sport MEC Barbara Creecy's department is supplying equipment, medals and trophies to alleviate the financial burden on organisers.

"We are using the tournaments to mobilise for the Confederations Cup," said Fani Mokoena, Gauteng's 2010 World Cup technical director.

"We want to ensure that our people fill-up stadiums during the Confederations Cup.
