The South African Police Union would like to commend members of the SAPS for the drastic decline in violent crime, particularly bank heists and armed robberies, during the festive season.

Sapu salutes the men and women in blue who have risked their lives in order to stop these ruthless and merciless armed gangs.

Sapu would also like to acknowledge the critical role played by members of the community in these successes.

As the Sapu motto states, we can only make a difference when we work together.

There was no way the police would have managed in some of the successful operations without the vital information supplied by the public.

To the SAPS members who wear their blue uniforms with pride, Sapu is proud of you. You are patriotic citizens who want to create a crime-free society through your supreme sacrifice.

We are aware that thousands of you are not even with your families at this time of the year.

You are working hard for the country so that law-abiding citizens can enjoy the festive holidays. Sapu would also like to assure the public that with this kind of cooperation with the police it's clear we can beat crime. We are optimistic that in 2009 we will work together until we have rooted out crime in our society.
