Jabu Mahlangu, who recently signed a six-month contract with Platinum Stars, no longer has any ties with Ostert IF of Sweden.

Mahlangu's contract with the third division side ended at the end of October, which is the end of the Swedish season. This means he can commit himself to Stars, according to his agent Mfundisi Mabalane yesterday.

Mabalane said they were already looking ahead and have started talks with another Swedish team - first division club Helsingborg IF.

If those talks are successful, Mahlangu could be off to Sweden again in April, when that country's league resumes.

"Of course, our contract with Platinum Stars has an option for renewal at the end of the six months, depending on our relationship. But Helsingborg has shown interest, and so has a couple of other clubs whose names I will not mention now. Should they come up with an offer that will justify him leaving the country, then we will be interested," said Mabalane.

The Tycoons' chairman, George Khunou, confirmed that Mahlangu was undergoing fitness tests at the Potchefstroom High Performance Centre. He said the six months was to give the two parties a chance to renegotiate the terms towards the end of the season.

"Not only will Jabu add value to the team on the field of play, but he is also capable of attracting fans to our games," Khunou said.
