LONDON - Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas could be out of action for as long as three months because of medial ligament damage to his right knee.

The north London club, which already appears to be out of contention for the Premier League title, had not revealed how long Fabregas would be on the sidelines for.

But The Sun newspaper, citing an unnamed source, reported yesterday that the Spain midfielder is definitely out of Arsenal's Champions League matches against Roma on February 24 and March 11 and could need surgery.

Fabregas hobbled out of Sunday's 1-1 Premier League draw with Liverpool, which left Arsenal eight points off the lead and in fifth place, following a tackle by Xabi Alonso at the end of the first half.
