They say until you have "grooved" in Soweto, you ain't lived!

That is the spirit of fun in the familiar surroundings of the not-so-dusty-anymore streets of Soweto, among friends, family and neighbours, that the Soweto Rocks Festival wants to bring back.

Instead of driving around when it's not really necessary or safe, pack a picnic basket and blanket and chill at the Ubuntu Kraal on New Year's Day from noon until late.

Thanks to news of Harare regrouping for a historical performance with their luminary vocalist Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse, excitement is at fever pitch. Fans and admirers will gather to witness the old spark of these sex symbols as they take the audience on a nostalgic journey of great tunes, tight music and stage elegance.

This time, age is on their side. They are no longer playboys ready to sow their oats. They bring maturity, elegance and tight tracks that will create new memories in the historical township.

Joining them are the elegant Abigail Kubheka, soulful Thapelo Mofokeng, impressive Nhlanhla Mahlangu, fantastic Soul Quartet and Zimbabwe's Samboko, who will show the indomitable spirit of his people.

Mabuse says: "The idea is to take music where it was conceptualised and disseminated. The message that Soweto is still a cool place to hang out at should resonate throughout Joburg. People should come in their droves to enjoy good music at affordable prices. What better way to usher in 2009."

Tickets cost R70 at the gate.
