'Cholera fight being won'

The Limpopo department of health and social development was yesterday that it was "slowly but surely" winning the fight against cholera, especially in Musina where the disease had threatened to spin out of control.

Spokesman Phuti Seloba said 15 new cases were reported yesterday but only five had to be admitted to hospital.

Seloba said 11 patients were admitted at a rehydration centre in Madimbo, bringing to 16 the number of Zimbabweans suffering from the epidemic along the border between South Africa and its northern neighbour.

The disease seems to be taking its toll in the Burgersfort area. Yesterday 23 new patients were admitted at Dilokong Hospital. This brings to 42 the number of patients at the institution.

The department has dealt with 909 cases since the outbreak.
