Mahwelereng Spikes clinched the inaugural Windhoek Draught Top 8 easily thanks to Lebowakgomo Wildbeasts who beat tournament favourites Seleteng Giant Killers 6-5 in the semifinals on Saturday.

Spikes in turn beat Wildbeasts 9-2 in the final.

Seshego diamond was packed to capacity with softball fanatics who were almost glued to their camp chairs throughout the day until 11pm when prizes were handed over to the winners.

Some of the fans travelled from as afield as Ekurhuleni, Soweto and Tshwane.

Spikes thrashed Moletlane Texas 8-1 during a one-sided opening semifinal.

In the second semifinal, Wildbeasts surprised everybody, including themselves, when they beat Killers 6-5.

Killers had to settle for the third prize when they beat Texas 2-1 during a stiffly contested losers' final.

Motivated by their victory over Killers, Wildbeasts launched a fierce attack on Spikes from the opening innings. Their efforts paid dividends when Tebogo Ramogoadi scored the first run.

Spikes levelled the score through Thabang "Contact Number" Letsoalo, and went on the rampage to cement their 9-2 victory.

Spikes went home with a R10000, a floating trophy and gold medals, while Wildbeasts received R5000 and silver medals.
