Polokwane boxers rule the ring

Boxers from Polokwane municipality outmuscled their counterparts from the other four municipalities during the Capricorn District Executive Mayor's Amateur Boxing Championship on Saturday in Botlokwa.

Boxers from Polokwane municipality outmuscled their counterparts from the other four municipalities during the Capricorn District Executive Mayor's Amateur Boxing Championship on Saturday in Botlokwa.

More than 80 amateur boxers participated in this inaugural yearly championship that was organised by Capricorn District Boxing Association and sponsored by the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM).

Veli Mahesu (Polokwane) won the junior category when he beat Mahlatse Motimele (Blouberg) on a technical knockout, while Khotso Mokhali (Polokwane) beat Hudson Mahlagane (Blouberg) to win the senior category.

Other municipalities that participated were Molemole and Lepelle-Nkumpi.

Motalane Monakedi, CDM's executive mayor, said: "We have set aside R3million to nurture the amateur talent with the hope that most of them will turn professional in the near future." - Matome Lebea
