Boy (16) drowns in pool
Mystery surrounds the drowning of a 16-year-old boy in a swimming pool at Alexandra Road in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.
The teenager drowned while swimming with many others but, no one saw him struggling in the water though other peoplewere seated on the side of the pool.
Police spokesman Joey Jeevan said initial investigations had found that the boy and other members of his family were dropped off at the pool earlier in the day.
"It is believed that during the course of the day he dived into the deep end of the pool and a short while later other patrons noticed that he was floating on the surface of the water," she said.
Jeevan said lifeguards immediately pulled him out and attempted to resuscitate him but failed.
Paramedics also tried in vain to revive the teenager.
Jeevan said a post mortem would be held to determine the boy's death.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The name of the deceased has not been released.
