Mokete Tsotetsi, Kaizer Chiefs defender, remains optimistic that Amakhosi will bounce back in the new year after a disappointing first part of the Absa Premiership.
Tsotetsi was speaking after their 2-2 draw with Platinum Stars at Olympia Park in Rustenburg on Saturday night, which marked the end of their 2008 campaign.
Amakhosi have collected only two points from a possible 12 in their past four matches, which is a clear indication that there are no guarantees in soccer now.
"We did well against Platinum Stars, especially in the first half where we should have scored more goals," said Tsotetsi, who was named man of the match.
"We allowed them to bounce back in the second half and paid the price by conceding two silly goals. I know it is disappointing for the fans but we will bounce back.
"The league is a marathon, but we need to start showing consistency. The festive season break will give us time to recharge our batteries.
"It will be a more hungry Chiefs in the new year, we have to do it," said the hard-working Tsotetsi, who had a great match.
Stanley "Bingo" Kgatla, Stars' influential midfielder, said: "Half a loaf is better than nothing, but I still feel we should have won the match.
"It's good we are still on track to finish the season in the top five bracket. One of the things that we need to do in the new year is to tighten up our defence.
"Some of the goals that we have been conceding are disappointing, but the most important thing is that we worked as one unit."
Muhsin Ertugral, Chiefs' coach, said their mistakes had cost them the three points.
Miquel Gamondi, Stars' coach, said: "Credit to my boys, it's not easy to fight back and get a point after being 2-0 down against a big club of Kaizer Chiefs' calibre."
Chiefs broke the deadlock in the seventh minute through Tshepo Bulu after a neat cross from Zito Ogbonna.
The home side went further ahead when Tsotetsi scored after a goal-mouth scramble in the 50th minute.
The Tycoons pulled one back in the 81st minute from the penalty spot through Robinson Renteira.
The match ended in dramatic fashion when Bradley Grobler netted his first Premiership goal after being set by Renteira in the 89th minute.
