LONDON - Reports yesterday suggest Uzbek oligarch Alisher Usmanov could be preparing a takeover bid for Arsenal after the removal of Nina Bracewell-Smith from the board.

Bracewell-Smith, who owns 15,9 percent of Arsenal, was removed from the board after a three-year term as a director, apparently after a major disagreement with other board members.

She has previously said she has no intention of selling her shares, but may reconsider in the light of recent developments.

A spokesman for Usmanov's Red & White Holdings investment vehicle told the Guardian: "We are watching developments with interest."

Usmanov owns 24 percent of the club after buying out former vice-chairman David Dein last year. - Sapa-dpa
