Free State Stars plan to give their supporters, the Red Ants, something to cheer about during the festive season in the form of a win over Bloemfontein Celtic.

The two sides meet in an Absa Premiership Free State derby at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Sunday at 3.30pm.

It comes at a time when the future of Mich D'Avray as coach of Phunya SeleSele is hanging in the balance following a string of poor results.

The tail-enders from Mangaung - who collected eight points from 13 games - are still smarting from a 3-0 midweek setback to Orlando Pirates.

The current state of affairs at Celtic is naturally a cause of major concern for the hard-to-please Siwelele and the management.

Stars have been doing well lately, crowning their revival with a 2-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in QwaQwa on Wednesday.

But Steve Komphela, Ea lla Koto joint coach was quick to point out that they won't read too much into Celtic's unimpressive run in the league.

"They have great individual players and a highly experienced coach in Mich, but I hope they don't get it right at our expense."

D'Avray remains hopeful that Celtic will turn the corner, saying they were working hard to sharpen their firing squad, which has been firing blanks this season.

Celtic have scored seven goals.

Stars welcome back Sthembiso Ngcobo, Sipho Nkosi and Siyabonga Mdluli from suspension, but will be without Paulos Masehe and Tshegofatso Mashego.

Celtic will rely on the experience of seasoned campaigners like Shaun Bartlett, Patrick "Chippa" Malokase and Moses Spandeel to get a rare win.

In Umlazi tomorrow, Golden Arrows will also be hoping for a great Christmas present by defeating Bay United at King Zwelithini Stadium.

The Manqoba Mngqithi-guided side is still celebrating a midweek win over Bidvest Wits, while Umlilo lost 0-1 to reigning champions SuperSport United.

United's new coach Khabo Zondo is still chasing his first win after playing to a 3-all draw with Amakhosi last Sunday.
