I was excited to see former state president Thabo Mbeki walking side by side with President Kgalema Motlhanthe. (Sowetan had a beautiful picture of them). I saw in Mbeki true statesmanship.
This reminded me of the day he took office - side by side with his predecessor, Nelson Mandela.
While I did not agree with Mbeki running for a third term as president of the real Congress, I think what he did yesterday shows that he is a man of quality. He avoided going to Bloemfontein - whichever side he would have been on - and chose to put the nation, and not party politics, first.
I was sad to read that Jacob Zuma and Mosiuoa Lekota were still at each others throats in Bloemfontein. This is not healthy, guys, we don't want to see the Inkatha vs ANC strife of the pre-1994 elections. Worse of all, Zuma criticised Mbeki for not caring for former MK members.
Elections are around the corner. Don't promote your parties at the expense of the many people who might lose their lives or become victims of this bickering. You should know better.
