ANC leader Jacob Zuma says the dominance of the ANC is not a threat to democracy and South Africa does not need to have two strong parties to be a democracy.

"Democracy says the majority of the people must have a common view. Their view must prevail," he told 702's Redi Direko yesterday.

"That's the essence of democracy. Now, if you have a party like the ANC that has policies that the overwhelming majority of the country supports, why should that be described as less of a democracy?"

He also said he believed that the Congress of the People would not pose a threat to the ruling party.
