A busy road that serves as a link between Mpumalanga and Limpopo was opened for traffic in Burgersfort yesterday.

The R8,8 million road was completed last week and has been opened for vehicles that pass through the platinum town.

The 2km stretch of road in the central business district links Polokwane with the Maputo Corridor to Mozambique. It accommodates increased traffic during the festive season.

Municipal manager Simon Malepeng said the town usually experienced a high death toll during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

He said the construction of the road was labour intensive and that more than 120 jobs had been created for local women and youths.

Meanwhile, MEC for roads and transport Cassel Mathale was greeted by loud cheers at Moletji during the opening of the Nobel-Bochum and Moletji-Dendron road yesterday. The road is used by an average of 35 vehicles a minute.
